Bhairava Stava

Bhairava Stava — Abhinavagupta’s hymn to Bhairava, presented by Dr. Mark Dyczkowski

Somewhere around 1020 AD, it is said, Abhinavagupta entered the Bhairava Cave together with some of his disciples, chanting his favourite hymn to Bhairava — the Bhairava Stava. Since then Abhinavagupta has not been seen in human form: an alchemical transformation of his body into the pure light of consciousness.

“O compassionate Lord, under the influence of your glory and for the benefit of your worshipers, I Abhinavagupta have composed this hymn. By meditation and recitation of this hymn within a moment that merciful Lord Bhairava destroys the torments and sufferings springing from this wilderness of saṃsāra.”
